TIGERCAT

Canadian forestry equipment specialist, Tigercat, is now represented in New Zealand by AB Equipment. Tigercat designs and builds premium quality, purpose-built forestry equipment for felling, transporting, processing and loading tree-length and cut-to-length timber.  Tigercat is seen as a natural extension to AB Equipment’s product mix which also includes Sumitomo excavators.

The most popular Sumitomo SH300-5TL and SH370-3BTL models are specifically designed for forestry applications. The Sumitomo SH370TL excavator in particular, made a big impact when it was originally introduced into the American market with operators there impressed with the slew torque and traction, believing there was nothing else in the market that could match it. These days the harvesting head excavators can be seen operating extensively throughout the Lake Taupo forest areas.

The Sumitomo Dash 5 is a well-packaged excavator whose advanced engine system continually delivers the durability and reliability necessary in this environment. Add in an intelligent hydraulic system, improved cab comforts and a maintenance system that minimises wear, then you have a future proof excavator that is ideally placed for contractors to capitalise on future forestry opportunities.

It combines exceptional performance with lower operating costs and improved operator comfort. This is achieved firstly though the introduction of the SPACE 5 Advanced Engine System which is a powerful system specifically designed to deliver improved durability and reliability. Secondly, the SIHS (Sumitomo Intelligent Hydraulic System) is designed to improve the operators workload with an 8% increase in bucket digging force, a 24% increase in bucket closing speed, a 4% increase in traction force and a 7% improvement in arm closing speeds under heavy excavation, with a 5% increase in workload performance using SP (Speed Priority) mode.

Operator comfort in the Sumitomo Dash 5 is a prime consideration with improvements to every aspect of the cabin space including a larger work area, increased visibility and lower noise levels.

Other interesting aspects of this well packaged Sumitomo Dash 5 excavator are the high performance filters, keeping the hydraulic oil at its optimum, increasing hydraulic component life, providing less downtime, further reducing costs.
Improved EMS (Easy Maintenance System) keeping the pins and bushes lubricated at all times, minimising wear and further extending their life.

Safety is also a key part of the Sumitomo, with the inclusion of an anti- theft system as standard, as is the easier entry and exit from the cab and better access to the upper structure which are all designed to provide the operator with more protection.

Sumitomo manufacture a range of excavators from 7500 kg to 80000kg.
